In the bustling heart of the city, Salon Metro emerges as a beacon of modern design and environmental consciousness. Kun-Sen Chang's vision for the salon's relocation to private land has culminated in a space that exudes both style and sustainability. The minimalist approach taken by Chang not only facilitates the seamless operation of the salon but also establishes a serene and uncluttered environment for patrons and staff alike.
The design's cornerstone lies in its minimalistic aesthetics, where the raw beauty of the concrete ceiling harmonizes with a monochromatic palette, punctuated by vibrant orange seating. This bold color choice not only adds a pop of energy to the space but also signifies the salon's commitment to creative hair design. The strategic placement of two core areas – the welcoming counter and the central color bar – ensures optimal circulation and connectivity within the salon, enhancing the workflow efficiency.
Salon Metro's realization is a testament to the innovative use of materials such as gray paint, ironwork, and polished quartz tiles, which together forge the salon's industrial charm. The thoughtful integration of system panels, mirrors, and metal accents further accentuates the design's unique properties, while the clever use of lighting and reflective surfaces amplifies the sense of spaciousness.
Technical precision was paramount in executing the design, with meticulous planning ensuring that the layout complements the building's architecture. The expansive floor-to-ceiling windows invite natural light to dance across the salon's floors, while the 5800k LED lights provide a consistent glow essential for precision in hair coloring. Chang's design not only elevates the customer experience but also aligns with the salon's evolution from a traditional chain to a design-centric studio.
The project, completed in September 2022 in Taiwan, is a culmination of extensive research into lighting, spatial dynamics, and customer experience. The design, aptly named 'Silky Glow,' reflects the seamless integration of form and function, where every curve and color accentuates the salon's ethos of beauty and innovation.
Chang's Salon Metro is more than just a space for beauty treatments; it is a testament to the power of design in transforming a brand's image. The salon's recognition with a Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Category in 2024 is a fitting accolade for a space that not only challenges the conventions of salon design but also sets a new benchmark for environmental responsibility in the beauty industry.
